Rewrite Digital is proud to partner with ukactive and Sport England in launching the third annual Digital Futures report, revealing growth for organisations that invest in digital strategy.
The report follows a consultation with the fitness, leisure and sports sector, providing a measure of how well organisations are embracing digital. It highlights the main areas for improvement to digital strategies, services and experiences.
A total of 204 organisations took part this year, more than doubling the participation in 2022. This represents more than 2,200 sites across the UK, serving an estimated 5.5 million members nationwide.
To complete the consultation, organisations answered a set of questions designed by Rewrite Digital. To keep pace with digital, two new questions were introduced around emerging technologies (such as artificial intelligence / AI) and the environmental impact of digital.
The growth in participation this year provides greater insight into the digital challenges and opportunities across the sector. Through the insights gained, ukactive, Sport England and partners can deliver tailored support to enable the sector to continue to advance their digital maturity, and ultimately grow participation in physical activity and reduce inequalities.
Key findings:
- Of the total sample, UK leisure, fitness and sports organisations scored an average 47% digital maturity and effectiveness score
- Five organisations reached ‘Digital Leader’ status, scoring 80% or more
- Fitness, leisure and sports organisations taking part in the consultation for a second or third time on average scored significantly higher with an average 57% score (+4% on their previous score), compared to new participants who scored an average of 43%.
Rewrite Digital continue to work with ukactive and Sport England in designing and developing the fourth year of the Digital Futures programme in 2024.
